A solid gold cube of 66 feet

Gold fact: At the end of 2006, it was estimated that all the gold ever mined totals 158,000 tons. More interesting - all those tons of gold equals a cube with an edge length of only 66 feet. That is some dense AND rare metal!!  Think about that -  all the gold ever found in all of history consolidated into that one single cube.

Reminds me of a customer bringing in a 5+ oz placer nugget to sell that he found in Mariposa creek about an hour away from my home in Central California. It was worth several thousand dollars of course but the size of it was a bit disappointing to look at. The nugget fit easily in the middle of the palm of my hand - not an astonishing piece to look at, but BOW HOWDY I will never forget the weight of that sucker. Even after all these years and the millions of dollars of gold I have come into contact with, I never quite get used to the density of gold or the value either. If you haven't held a large nugget before, imagine the price of a used car sitting in the palm of your hand.

By the way, the guy who found that sweet nugget did it in a creek running through the middle of town that had supposedly been worked over for generations by pros and tourists alike. - Now use that motivation to go out and find some gold!
